Himachal Pradesh Transport minister today said the road link between Shimla and Recong Peo in Kinnaur has been restored. State transport buses today plied between Shimla and Recong Peo. He said the efforts were on to restore the traffic on other link roads in Kinnaur.

Road link had snapped extensively in entire Kinnaur district following flash floods and massive landslides in Satluj and Baspa basin cutting of entire NH 22 and road link to Sangla. As per reports large tracts of NH 22 from Karcham to Khab has been washed off. The worst affected is the road between Puh and Khab where large stretches of highway has washed off.

As per reports it would take over a month to restore traffic to Kaza from Shimla side.

Reports of tourists being stuck in different parts of Kinnaur kept tricking in. 14 American nationals were today airlifted from Sangla valley which remained cut off from the rest of the state. As per reports there are around 40 more tourists still stranded in Sangla Valley and approximately the same number of tourists are said to be stuck at Puh. Efforts were on to evacuate the tourists from these places.

Meanwhile road link to Kaza was opened from Manali side by opening of Kunzum Pass on Sunday by Border Road Organisation for smaller vehicles after removing 15 feet of snow over the Kunzum Pass.

If you are traveling to Kinnaur and Kaza please confirm the exact road conditions before you leave for the area. Though road link has been restored till Recong Peo only there is always of danger of landslides in the area owing to heavy monsoon and fragile ecology of the area.
