On the bases of their origin all the lakes of Himachal may be classified into five different kinds namely the salt lakes, glacial lakes, Remnant lakes, Natural dam lakes and structural lakes.

Govind Sagar – (Largest manmade lake in HP due to construction of Bhakra Nangal Dam on river Satluj). The area of this lake is about 168 sq. Km and it exists between Slappar and Bhakra village at 88 km length.
Manimahesh Lake – (3950 mts. Altidude)
Renuka lake – (Largest natural lake in HP) This lake has been named after the Mother of the Lord ParshuRam, Devi Renuka.
